The publishing industry is definitely changing, and today, these great changes center around e-books. Even the hottest bestsellers on the shelves are being formatted to e-readers so that they can be enjoyed by readers anywhere on devices like the Kindle.

Speedy Publishing Process

Perhaps one of the greatest benefits to e-reader publishing is that it is electronic and virtually instantaneous. Books that are formatted to e-readers can be sold and downloaded from websites like Amazon, so they potentially reach an even greater reader base. For the many readers out there that are interested in a new book but don’t want to go to the bookstore or library to get it, all they have to do is download the publication to their e-reader in a few moments. This puts quick money in the pocket of the author to generate even greater online sales.

How Does E-Reader Publishing Work?

If you’re interested in publishing your book to an e-reader through a website like Amazon, you will firstly need an Amazon account. There you will find a prompt to publish on the Kindle by using the digital text platform available through Amazon.

If you are self-publishing to an e-reader, it is important that your book is completely edited before publishing. Amazon does not edit any publications for the Kindle, so ensuring that your book is up to par is your responsibility. This editing should be much more than just running a spellcheck. Make sure that you and several trusted people in your life have read through the book numerous times to ensure that it is in its best condition.

From there, Amazon will allow you to upload your e-book as a word document, text file, PDF, or HTML. However, it is best to only use PDF as a last resort since it may be difficult to format for the Kindle. You can then upload your book to the Amazon digital text platform, where you will be redirected to a dashboard to help you publish your book directly. One handy feature is that you don’t have to publish your book immediately; you can upload it and leave it on the dashboard as a draft until you are ready for the final publication.

Once your book is ready for publication, you can publish it to e-reader format with the simple click of a button. Your e-reader book will be available for purchase on Amazon within 72 hours, and you can view your sales and downloads directly through the Amazon dashboard.

This is a similar process that publishing houses now use to convert best-selling books into the e-reader format. Perhaps one of the greatest benefits to publishing to the Kindle is that any author has the opportunity to share their work with the world. If you are interested in self-publishing, then an e-reader publication may be the best choice for you.

Making your work available online in the digital format will help you to reach new reader bases that you may not have been able to market to if your book was in the traditional form!

4 Ways for Published Print-Only Authors To Market Their Books on Kindle

Posted in Book Marketing on February 14th, 2012 by admin

Source: http://www.bookbuzzr.com/blog/book-marketing/5-ways-for-published-print-only-authors-to-market-their-books/

If you are published author and your book is still only available in print format you’re probably getting seriously frustrated. You see so many other books in your category being offered as a Kindle book. While your own book is available only in dead-tree format. What can you do to promote your book to the universe of Kindle users?

Here are 4 things that you can do:

1. Setup a Kindle edition of your blog – A Kindle blog is like a regular blog but is auto-delivered to Kindle devices. You can even charge for your blog subscription. This way, some Kindle readers will discover you and may be tempted enough to buy a physical copy of your book.

2. Put up a free manifesto of your book on the Kindle store – While you may not have the rights for your book since you’re a published author, you can create a manifesto of your book and put it up on the Kindle store for free. That way, the ideas inside your book will at least be available for potential readers to discover.

3. Ask your readers and friends to contact the publisher – Below every book that is not available in Kindle format, there is a hyperlink that allows visitors to tell the publisher that they’d like to see the book in Kindle format. Ask as many of your friends as possible to go and click on this link (special request: Please click on the “Tell the Publisher” link for my friend, Chetan’s book so that it becomes available in Kindle format soon.)

4. Make your book-cover Kindle ready – it has to stand out as a thumbnail image, since it’s being sold online. Also, since it is seen in black and white, too many subtle color variations may not help much and may even distort what you are trying to convey with the book-cover. A solid block of text on top of a white background with a small icon is a good choice.

We’re on the look out for other ideas, tips and tricks that can help authors promote their books for Kindle users. If you have any ideas, let us know in the comments section below.

What To Keep In Mind When Publishing eBooks

According to Forrester Research, digital book sales tripled to $966 million in 2010 and are set to almost triple again by 2015. Last summer, Amazon said sales of ebooks for its Kindle reader had far eclipsed hardcover book sales. In about 2007, Amazon introduced its Kindle ereader and Barnes and Noble soon followed with the Nook. Then iPhones got an app to read ebooks, and next it was the iPad and other copycats. You can even read an ebook on your PC or Mac with the free software Kindle for PC (or Mac). And now the libraries are offering electronic books that are being converted by a company called Overdrive.

Don’t you think it’s time for you to write your ebook?!

I always suggest authors keep several things in mind when planning to publish an ebook. First is determining the author and reader motivations. Why do you want to write an ebook, and what’s in it for the reader? You might write fiction because you have a story to tell; or nonfiction to share your passion or expertise teaching a skill or solving a problem; or to build your visibility for your business; or to add an income stream. The reader is generally motivated to buy the ebook because of entertainment or education—they’ll enjoy your novel or they’ll learn something from your nonfiction.

Second is determining if you should publish an ebook, a pbook (print), or both. Ebooks have a lower cost to publish, are quicker to write because they can be shorter, are more profitable, have a targeted market—and they’re hot! Your only costs are editing, formatting, and a book cover. You can accomplish these for under $500 in most cases. Ebooks are faster to write because they can be shorter and generally you’re writing about an area you know well, so you can write like you’re talking to someone. You make a decent profit because you have little invested and you can sell them for around $2.99 to $9.99 with Amazon taking only 35%. Additionally, you write an ebook for a targeted market so they’re easy to locate and that makes your promotion more effective.

Third is determining which format. Right now there’s Kindle which uses a Mobi format, and Nook and all the others which use ePub. You can go to https://kdp.amazon.com and sign up for a Kindle account, follow the formatting guidelines, convert your book from Word to Mobi, and upload it to Amazon. You can also go to www.smashwords.com and convert your book to ePub for the other readers. Or you can hire someone who specializes in ebook conversions, an emerging industry! This depends on your level of patience!

Fourth is determining your keywords so readers can find you. You’ll want to use them in your title or subtitle, your ebook description, your bios, book reviews, websites, advertising, and marketing. You can find good keywords using the Google keyword tool at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal.

Lastly, think about how you’re going to market your ebook. Who is your ideal reader and where can you find them? Marketing ebooks in the virtual world is much more effective than marketing books in the real world. No longer do you have to show up for a book signing and speak to a crowd of three people! No longer do you have to get up at 4:00 am to do a two-minute spot on your local TV cable station. The world is at your fingertips when you want to market your ebook online. Find your readers and tell them why they should buy your book. It’s that simple. You can use any one or several of these promotional methods: blogs, podcasts, online radio, social networking, websites (yours and others), teleclasses (yours and others), articles, press releases, and email blasts. I’m sure you can find something that matches your skills and personality to the best method to get in front of your reader.

Jump into the ebook explosion now! It’s the quickest way to get that book that you’ve always wanted to write, finally written—and published!

Selecting The Best E-book Publishing Format

Posted in E-book Tips on September 20th, 2011 by admin

Source: http://www.freearticles.com/article/Selecting-The-Best-E-book-Publishing-Format/3853

E-book creation and marketing is an extremely popular industry for people who would like to engage in an internet-based business through their writing skills and ability to gather articles or resources from the internet. But before you can publish your own E-book, selecting the best format is a very important step to consider. Basically, there are two popular E-book publishing formats from which you can decide on.

The EXE Format

You can use an EXE format which is a quite popular option for E-book publishers until recently. Because compiling an EXE file requires a relatively inexpensive cost, EXE formats initially became popular to the authors. Moreover, this allows the affiliates to easily brand the E-book with their individual associate links.

However, publishing an E-book using this format is not a preferable option at the present because of its vulnerability to be corrupted and infected by viruses which makes this a rather unsafe option. Of course you don’t want to be passing on viruses to the customers through your virus-infected E-books. That would certainly affect your business reputation and profits. Furthermore, EXE files are compatible only to Macintosh users; thus, ruling out several potential customers from acquiring your E-book.

The PDF Format

Another option is the PDF format which is more preferred by many E-book publishers because it is compatible and adaptable to all computers whether it is a PC or a Macintosh. PDFs can be read in virtually any operating system as long as an Adobe Reader or its equivalent is installed. In addition, the documents can be viewed all the same regardless of what platform or computer you are using.

Publishing an E-book in a PDF format also makes it easy for the consumer to use it because of the clean navigation buttons. Moreover, the reader can zoom in or zoom out the document for their satisfaction. The author may also want to insert hyperlinks to the document in order for the reader to locate specific words or chapters without any difficulties.

There is a huge misconception that PDF documents are very expensive to create. Because the market knows the fact that Adobes PDF creation tools are very expensive which makes it true to PDF creations as well. However, you shouldn’t disregard all the other options available. In fact, the internet now offers numerous free downloads of PDF creation products which presents almost the same features as the purchased one. Also most of the Word Processors are already incorporated with PDF exporting features.

Perhaps you already know by now that the best format to use when publishing E-books is the PDF format. Not only it is easy to create but also using it doesn’t present any hassle.

As a self-published author, you have the choice to reach that 10-digit financial success.   With all the innovations of our generation, you have the capability to widen your book marketing options.  Today, almost anyone can publish a book even on a shoestring budget!

How do you think did the young 26-year old multi-billionaire made it to the top of the world? He primarily used innovation to step on the pedestal of success.

The publishing industry is fierce that you need the best and the newest tools to be the cut above the rest. People nowadays are more inclined to gadgets, so you would need to keep up with this kind of market. Agree or disagree, more and more people are diving into the convenience of reading e-books. Don’t get me wrong. I love reading paperbacks, especially the classic smell from flipping pages. But when you talk about convenience and mobility, e-books are certainly the best option.

Here’s a quick list of reasons why you SHOULD venture into e-book publishing:

Write to share. Just like blogging, publishing your own e-book will help a lot of people. You won’t feel the impact overnight. But every e-book published enables thousands if not millions of people improve their lives. No two lives are alike. So go ahead and share your own stories of failures, happiness, trials, struggles, and success.

Create your audience. Writing can be a very crucial move. Writing can make you gain friends and enemies. But given that you have a well-written e-book, it will bring you credit. It’s a fact that readers will love and hate you. But more often than not, people will respect what you have written. At least, you leave a legacy.

Skip the terror editor. Sure editing is vital for the success of your book. Too much editing, especially on the context, takes so much time. But if your goal is to touch lives and not to impress people, why bother to have two heads for your book? It’s your book, not theirs. It takes forever to impress. Believe me.

It’s overwhelmingly cost-efficient. Publishing e-books can be done in a very affordable budget. What’s to lose?

Publish like it’s just a walk in the park. With all the software tools available on this age, publishing an e-book can be done in less than a week. With sufficient materials like manuscript and images, you’re already way to go.

Ditch the inventory and delivery costs. Publishing an e-book completely avoids you from paying extra and unnecessary expenses. You can generate sales even without moving an inch from your computer. (Cheers to that!)

You keep all the profits. Period. Need I say more?

Do not start writing tomorrow. Start today.
